Critters in Spring
Ah Spring in the Springs.....when all the little creatures are stirring around in my neighborhood which is adjacent - literally across an alley - from a national park. This photo of the park entrance is right beside my home, which offers priceless opportunities for walking and enjoying nature, but last week nature came too close.
You see, there were suddenly some surprising bumps and thumps from above my head Sunday evening. After some investigation it was clearly coming from my attic, not the roof - a favored spot for squirrels. It reminded me of my first apartment, which though very reasonable in price, had walls, doors, and windows that were so thin they barely kept the world out. My upstairs neighbors there - a non-petite couple - sounded a lot like my new attic companion.
After some wrestling with the conscience - what if it was a mother with babies? - the fear of chewed wiring or disease-carrying fleas overcame my PETA sympathies. I called around and found the Critter Getters here in Hot Springs Arkansas - seriously, their name alone required further contact! Two cousins, Alex and Keith, came promptly and entered my non-accessible attic without a ladder using a Chinese acrobat technique that was worth the price of admission itself. They toured my scary basement/crawl space, and pronounced me a shelterer of a pushy oppossum. They could trap and take it out to the Country (I'm sure they found it a lovely new home and nice friends) and seal up all the potential access points to deter future guests from setting up housekeeping without assisting with the mortgage. All this for the cost of my nice Government Stimulus Check - so much for the plasma TV suggested by our President.
Anyway, the service worked within hours, I fortunately never saw my 'possum buddy on his way to the Country, and all is quiet again here on the edge of the Park. I've tried to find some way to tie this story to organizing or de-cluttering or something, but without success. Sometimes you just need to find experts like the Critter Getters to bring you peace.
Enjoy a peaceful week.
