5 Stages of New Electronics

Gadget Angst

OK, so I very recently purchased both a Flip video camera and upgraded to a Blackberry Torch Smart Phone. Probably overly ambitious in hind sight. This phone is clearly so much smarter than me - it's mocking me this very minute with it's incessant little blinking red light.

Of course I skipped over about 6 generations from my antique flip non-smart phone, but I either need to hire a teenager to teach it to me or take off a week from work to learn it on my own.

From these experiences I've come up with the 5 Stages of New Electronic Gadget Acclimation:

Stage 1 Fear - trembling in the phone store and trying to look way hipper than I am and learning that the perky salesgirl has never even heard of Southwestern Bell Telephone. Sigh...

Stage 2 Loathing and Buyer's Remorse. I want my life back and my old voicemail message and a simple way to re-dial (surely there's something here??). Good thing they give you 21 days to return the darn thing....

Stage 3 Experimentation - maybe if I flip this up, or try this button, or call ATT (they actually answer and help eventually)....

Stage 4 Grudging admiration (here's where I am with my Flip) - OK this is kinda cool

Stage 5 How Did I Ever Live Without this Thing? Please tell me if you're here with any new toys, and how good it feels, and so on to encourage me. :)
